What a non-compliant status means
A non-compliant status means CARB's records show the truck is missing at least one requirement. A missed Clean Truck Check deadline is the most common reason, but not the only one.
A truck can be out of compliance if:
- It was not tested before its deadline
- It failed and has not passed a retest
- It is not reported in CTC-VIS
- CARB's annual compliance fee is unpaid
Check the truck in CTC-VIS to see which one applies. Fixing the wrong thing wastes time.
While a truck is non-compliant, a California-registered truck can get a DMV registration hold, which blocks the renewal. Any non-compliant truck that operates can face CARB citations and penalties. CARB sets the amounts, and they can change.
The status does not clear itself. Once the missing step is done, check CTC-VIS again to confirm the truck shows as compliant. If you cannot make sense of what CTC-VIS shows, call us. We help owners with CTC-VIS questions.
