CTC-VIS login, compliance status and the certificate

CTC-VIS login help: how to check Clean Truck Check compliance status by VIN, what counts as a pass certificate, and where to find official CARB updates.

Short answer: The CTC-VIS login is your account in CARB's Clean Truck Check Vehicle Inspection System. Once you are logged in, you check each truck's compliance status by its VIN. For most owners, the "certificate" people talk about is that compliance status in CTC-VIS, so the record in your account is what to rely on. For news and rule changes, go to CARB directly.

What is the CTC-VIS login?

The CTC-VIS login is the owner account you set up when you first reported your vehicles to CARB. It is where you add trucks, pay CARB's annual compliance fee and see test results and deadlines.

People search for it in several ways: "clean truck check login", "CTC-VIS login" or the web address "cleantruckcheck.arb.ca.gov". The safest way in is to start from CARB's Clean Truck Check page, which links to CTC-VIS and CARB's own instructions. Starting there helps you avoid look-alike sites.

A few login tips:

  • Use the email you registered with. Deadline notices and account messages go there, so use an inbox someone checks.
  • Keep the login with the business, not one person. If a dispatcher or office manager leaves, the fleet should not lose access.
  • Reset through CTC-VIS itself. If you forget your password, use the reset option on the login screen.

Diesel Dynamix is an independent testing service, not CARB or a government agency. We cannot log in for you or change your account, but we can explain what you are looking at.

How do I check my Clean Truck Check compliance status?

You check compliance status by logging in to CTC-VIS and opening each vehicle's record. The status there tells you whether the truck is currently compliant and when its next test is due.

When you look at a vehicle, check three things:

  1. Is the fee paid? CARB charges an annual compliance fee per vehicle. The amount is set by CARB and shown in CTC-VIS. A truck with an unpaid fee cannot be compliant. See the compliance fee guide.
  2. Is the latest test showing? After a passing test, the tester submits the result to CARB. Confirm it shows on the right VIN.
  3. When is the next due date? Most covered vehicles currently test twice a year. Under CARB's original rule, OBD-equipped vehicles move to four tests a year from October 1, 2027. A bill has proposed cutting testing to once a year, so treat the date in CTC-VIS as the one that counts.

If a truck shows as not compliant, it may be overdue, have an unpaid fee or be missing a test result. Our post on a missed Clean Truck Check deadline covers how to get back on track.

Can I do a Clean Truck Check VIN lookup?

Yes, inside your own account. Every truck in CTC-VIS is tied to its VIN, so a Clean Truck Check VIN lookup in your account shows that truck's record.

Get the VIN exactly right. One wrong character means test results may not match the truck. Check the VIN on the truck itself, not only on paperwork, and compare it to what is in CTC-VIS.

If you need the status of a truck you do not own, such as one you are buying or a subcontractor's truck, ask the owner to show you its CTC-VIS record. CARB's Clean Truck Check page lists any lookup tools CARB offers.

Is there a Clean Truck Check certificate to download?

Most owners do not need a separate paper certificate. Compliance shows as a status on each vehicle in CTC-VIS. When people search for "CTC-VIS certificate download", "clean truck check pass certificate" or "how to get a Clean Truck Check certificate", what they usually need is that status.

Here is the practical way to handle it:

  • Look at what CTC-VIS shows for the vehicle. If CTC-VIS offers a printable record or document for that truck, use it. Screens change over time, so follow what the portal shows.
  • Keep the tester's record. Diesel Dynamix gives you a test record for each VIN, which helps with your own files.
  • Ask CARB if you need an official document. If a customer, broker or port asks for proof and you cannot find what they want in CTC-VIS, contact CARB's Clean Truck Check help listed on CARB's page.

A passing test alone is not the whole story. The truck also has to be reported and have its fee paid. All three show up together in the CTC-VIS status.

How does a test result get into CTC-VIS?

The tester submits it. A credentialed tester runs the test that fits the truck's engine and sends the result to CARB, and it then appears on that VIN in CTC-VIS. You do not upload the test yourself.

The test depends on engine model year:

  • 2013 and newer diesel, 2018 and newer alternative fuel: CARB-verified OBD test.
  • 2012 and older diesel without OBD: smoke opacity test plus a visual inspection.
  • 2017 and older alternative fuel without OBD: visual inspection.

If a passed test does not appear, check the VIN first. See how testing works for what happens on test day.

Where do I get Clean Truck Check news and help?

For official Clean Truck Check news, rule changes and deadlines, go to CARB. CARB runs the program, and its Clean Truck Check page is where updates are posted. Its help contacts are listed there too.

Rules have changed before and may change again. The move to four tests a year for OBD trucks and the proposal to cut testing to once a year are good examples. Our 2026 and 2027 deadlines post explains what we know, but CARB's word is final.

What if my status says expired or overdue?

An expired or overdue status means the truck needs action now. Pay any open fee, get the truck tested and confirm the status updates in CTC-VIS.

Waiting can cost more. California-registered trucks that are not compliant can get a DMV registration hold, and CARB can issue citations and penalties. See DMV registration holds.
